Looking from the historical point of view, wooden hot tubs are very old. These all tubs can be found in various ancient castles. Maybe they are not so-called ancient, but still built in medieval ages. One of the examples is the castle in Slovakia and this picture was actually taken from there.
What are the differences between those old ones which are no more in a use right now and the current? To answer this question one must distinguish the types of wood-fired hot tubs which nowadays are for sale. So basically tubs can be divided into two separate groups: totally made of wood and the ones with plastic/fiberglass inside, but with wood trim as well.
In ancient times there were no tubs with plastic or fiberglass inside, therefore only wood tubs were used. To be honest, we can’t actually name those tubs as the wood fired ones because there was also no heating element which would be connected from inside or outside. It would be better to approach them as wooden baths which were used for taking a bath in a warm water which was heated up separately.
What positive effects can one obtain by using a hot tub
To answer the second part of the question if I would need it, one can read the article about what are the benefits of having a wood-fired hot tub. Having said that, benefits are not just a beautiful piece of furniture in your garden, but a very good way to keep you healthy and stress-free.
