A brown puddle beneath the stove is understandably worrying, but it does not by itself prove that the heat exchanger has a hole. Water can enter through the flue, condense on a cold surface, wash away soot and then escape through a joint. It may also come from a water connection and become discoloured by deposits. When it appears is often the most useful clue.

An external wood-burning stove can heat a hot tub simply and efficiently, provided water can circulate correctly between the tub and stove. In a natural-circulation installation, there is no pump to force the movement: the temperature difference and gravity do the work. Stove position, connection direction and pipe gradients are therefore essential.

Check whether each part of a wood-fired hot tub needs power: heating, circulation, filtration, jets, lights and controls, including power-loss behaviour.

Prepare an outdoor sauna for winter use. Assess cold starts, safe access, roof conditions and drying without blocking ventilation or guessing heat-up times.

Check sauna access, heater surroundings, ventilation and supervision before use. Recognise faults and heat-illness warning signs that require action.

Recognise electrical hot-tub warning signs, stop use safely and preserve useful fault details for an electrician. Avoid repeated resets and DIY repairs.

Build a hot-tub cost-per-use estimate from measured fuel, electricity, water and care costs. Includes an illustrative calculation with clear assumptions.
